Victory! Residential Fire Sprinklers Proposal Approved Today at ICC Hearing
[9/23/2008] - Fairfax, Va., Sept. 21, 2008... A committed and united fire service joined with other public safety interests to accomplish a significant feat September 21 in the fight to save lives and property. At the International Code Council (ICC) final action hearings in Minneapolis, voting members of the ICC passed the proposal to change the International Residential Code to require residential fire sprinklers in all new one- and two-family dwellings.  A strong majority—73 percent—voted in favor of the proposal. The vote was 1,282 in favor, 470 against. link

Brother John Beckwith - 12/10/1937-09/11/2008
[9/18/2008] - Local 483 is saddened to announce the passing of long time member, Brother John Beckwith.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to John's wife, Kathleen, and Brother Scott Beckwith and their family and friends.  A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Willow Park Golf Course, 17007 Redwood Road, Castro Valley.  Friends are invited to attend from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm.    more

John (John'O) Crowley
[6/23/2008] - Local 483 is saddend to announce the passing of our Brother, Dear Friend and Colleague.  John was well known and well respected  in the Labor Community and will surely be missed by not only his friends in Labor but by his family and friends at Local 483. We love you John'o and you will be missed by all.  Our prayers and thoughts are with John's wife, Charlene and his sons, Christopher and Jimmy.  The family has informed us that an Educational Fund has been established for Christopher and James, John's son.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: John Crowley Memorial Fund c/o Pacific Service Federal Credit Union PO Box 8191 Walnut Creek, California 94596 more

[3/6/2008] - At the Regular Membership Meeting of February 27, 2008, I announced the appointment of Michael Murphy a new Organizer for Local 483.  Michael will be working mainly in the counties of Marin and Sonoma.  I believe that with a full-time Organizer in these two (2) Counties we will be able to increase our market share and provide more opportunities for our membership. link
